Welcome to Your Second Home!

Making your first visit to Carolina Counseling Services (CCS) — Pinehurst, NC, and meeting your counselor/therapist is nothing to worry about. We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable, which is why we ensure that our office has a homey feel to it—clean, quiet, and cozy.

Come early, so you can relax a bit before you meet with your therapist. When your mind and body are at peace, it can be easier to open up and trust your therapist.

In the Meantime, Do the Preliminaries

Coming early lets you take your time to attend to the basic paperwork before starting your session. Rushing can make you feel tight, even tense.

You will find the basic paperwork in the waiting area.  This is the time to complete this paperwork, so that you can have it done before your session time starts.  You may also download the paperwork from this site and have it all completed before you arrive.

What’s the basic paperwork all about? These are forms that provide your therapist with the information they need.

When you request an appointment, you will be informed in advance of what you need to bring to start the session. This is usually your insurance card and a proper identification card (ID). If you intend to pay in cash, you will also be informed of how much to bring to cover the fees, copays, and/or deductibles.

At your scheduled time, your therapist will come and greet you in the waiting room and guide you to where your first session will be held. Inside the office, you can hand over the completed forms, as well as your ID and insurance card/cash. You will be issued a receipt to acknowledge any payment made.

The Goals of a Successful First Session

The goals that you and your therapist have for this first session are to assess and diagnose your symptoms and to decide if the therapist is the right match for you. The former is important because the diagnosis provides the basis for your therapy. The latter ensures that the therapist can be of substantial help to you.

To achieve these goals, you need to open up and trust your therapist. There will be personal questions about your medical and family history. Your cooperation is important in making an accurate diagnosis, formulating your therapy/treatment plan, and building trust between the two of you. Without trust or chemistry, it will be difficult to achieve any of the goals of therapy. The first consultation is the best time to assess if the chemistry is good between you and your therapist/counselor.

TRUST Goes a Long, Long Way

Making life a little better—one client at a time.”

This is Carolina Counseling Services’ guiding principle for its clients.

To achieve this, however, you must be matched with the right professional. This is the Carolina Counseling Services strategy! This is why you can trust CCS to work with you for your sound emotional well-being!

The first session will give you a feel for what’s coming. Will it be productive to work with your current therapist? If you feel the therapist is the right fit, you can continue seeing them for the next sessions. If you have difficulty trusting your therapist/counselor, you also have the prerogative to request another one.

Similarly, your therapist/counselor will assess whether your issues are within their specialization. By the end of the session, your therapist/counselor will confidently tell you if they can help you achieve your wellness goals. If they think you can be better helped by another professional, a proper referral or recommendation will be made.
